Child development in developing countries

As part of this course, our group will be meeting throughout the semester to discuss various issues on child development, disability culture, safety, and more... As we learn more about child development in developing countries, I am saddened by the state of many of the countries around the world. It makes me grateful for the opportunities and knowledge my family provided to me in my upbringing.

In one of the articles we read by Susan P. Walker titled "Child development: risk factors for adverse outcomes in developing countries", one of the main risk factors effecting child development in many areas is nutrition. Studies were done to track well nourished children's development against mal-nourished children's development. What shocked me the most was that in Guatemala there weren't enough well nourished children to complete the study.

Ghana is taking strides to bring support and awareness to the needs of persons with disabilities. It is a slow process and has a long way to go to filter through the country. This is one way our group will assist the people of Ghana. We will attempt to bring support and awareness to the people of Ghana about disability and child development.
