Randi Burlein, from the social work department at Virginia Commonwealth University, came to speak to our group right before spring break to give us some insight into our upcoming trip. The social work department has been going to Ghana for the past several years to work with the group, Sovereign Global Missions, that we will be working with.
It was great to hear another perspective on life in Ghana, safety precautions, information on the culture, and excitement for our trip. Her general love for the Ghanaian people was evident in her excitement for all that we would be seeing. It got me really excited!
One comment she made about the safety concerns we had regarding walking around the streets of the city was, "In my opinion, Accra is safer to walk around in than parts of Richmond". This made me laugh and relax a bit about our trip... (although, should I now be worried about where I currently live?) :)
